Lebanon Looks to ClearShield
A department store, a luxury hotel and a private villa are just some of the many buildings benefitting from Ritec’s ClearShield glass surface protection in Lebanon...
Local glass treatment specialist, ClearShield Glass Technology Lebanon, reports rising demand for Ritec’s proven technology, which offers durable surface protection against staining and corrosion caused by organic and inorganic contaminants, and leaves the glass easier to clean without the need for harsh chemicals.
“Many architects and consultants now include ClearShield in their design specifications for new buildings, and we’ve successfully restored and treated hundreds of square metres of existing glass too,” says Akram Damah, MD of ClearShield Glass Technology Lebanon. ClearShield chemically bonds to the surface, providing a durable and transparent barrier that is chemically inert, non-hazardous, UV stable and will not peel, crack or flake. “Our clients are amazed at the results, and cleaning frequency of treated glass can be cut, on average, by up to 50% – saving them both time and money,” he adds.
Close to a major highway and the coast, the unprotected glass façade of the Royal Hotel to the north of Beirut was looking dull from both traffic pollution and sea salt spray, as well as general dirt and finger marks. With the ClearShield System, ClearShield Glass Technology Lebanon renovated 1,400m2 of the hotel’s glass to its original pristine condition and then provided future protection by applying the ClearShield treatment. The team also restored and protected 283 linear metres of stainless steel in the hotel’s facade using Ritec’s Ritecoat System. This converts unprotected metal and powder-coated surfaces to ‘non-stick’ low-maintenance surfaces. Now the stainless steel and the glass no longer have to be cleaned so frequently to retain its pristine appearance.

Despite frequent cleaning, the outside of the six-storey ABC department store in Dbayeh on one of Lebanon’s busy international highways quickly became dirty again due to traffic pollution amongst other contaminants. ClearShield Glass Technology Lebanon supplied the solution using Ritec’s ClearShield System to restore and then treat the glazed areas. In addition, the Ritecoat System was used on the metal composite panels. As a result, the building’s façade now only needs cleaning three times a year instead of ten.

Also, owners of a new house near the capital of Beirut can enjoy the spectacular views through their floor to ceiling windows thanks to ClearShield. The property’s contemporary design features three skylights and 700m² of glazing. “Treating the newly installed glass with ClearShield means it will stay looking like new for longer with significantly reduced maintenance compared to unprotected glass,” says Akram.
